Beyond Plaid: Great Alternative Prints For Fall

I’m so tired of plaid for fall. Every autumn season, it’s the same thing plaid and darker toned knits. I generally love plaid, but I think there are a number of other patterns that a person can wear from September to December.

I love this bird print long skirt from ChicWish. It’s till very in line with fall without being same old boring plaid.

The Brainstorm Forum cardigan from Modcloth quickly caught my eye. I love the deep navy blue color and the bold print.

Here’s another Modcloth find that I adore. It’s very Boho chic and a great way to incorporate prints into your wardrobe for the fall. In fact, I think this dress would work all year round.

Just because it is fall, doesn’t mean you have to stop wearing floral. This dress from Super Dry is actually called a “fall print dress.” It’d be perfect for any autumn party.

Fall Print Tunic Dress

If you want a more “classic autumn” colored print, then you can’t go wrong with this 70s vibe top from Moonsoon. Folkloric floral are beautifully displayed on this autumn top, making it a perfect escape from plaid.

Monsoon Arianne Print Top

Perhaps on of my favorite prints is this marble one from Topshop. It’s a unique standout way to dress for fall.

Plaid is fine, but there are other prints out there that work great with the season. This year, I’m stepping away from the ordinary and embracing so more bolder unique prints.

Darker Florals

gothy florals

I think when most people think of floras, they think of bright red roses or a sunny yellow wild flowers. But there’s a darker side to flowers, one that is just as beautiful. The black velvet kimono is a striking statement piece that would be perfect for a gothic wardrobe as well as being a unique way of incorporating florals into an outfit. We are often trained to associate certain colors with femininity (usually lighter, softer tones) but I can’t think of anything more feminine than the beautiful blue and black floral corset hugging your womanly curves.
Darker florals can often be more textured, artistic, and fashion forward. While springtime colors are beautiful for the season, there’s another kind of beauty in the darkness and mystery found in some of these pieces. Strength marries delicacy when we combine flowers with rich dark hues and the union is perfection. Just checkout some of these chic individuals in their florals.

Blue Florals

blue florals

Blue flowers always remind me of something vintage. When I see a gathering of blue flowers on a garment I feel like I’m stepping back in time. The fabric and design can be as modern as ever, but I still an old feel for it. The floral jumpsuit for instance is very ‘today’ and yet I can picture it on girl in the 40’s as she dances with her friends on a summer evening. Maybe I should chop it down to blue florals being timeless and classic.
Blue is a reliable shade and that may have something to do with it being a classic and vintage inspiring color. Perhaps it’s reliability is also why so many people choose it as a favorite color. I love when I see it as the color choice for a floral print. I wish I had blue floral prints lining my closet to melt away my winter blues.

Girlie Vans

I love Vans, but their shoes are often very casual and tomboyish. They’re not shoes you can play dress-up in. But they’re so comfortable that it’s only natural that one would want to live in them. These Vans Bailie Boots are nice mesh of the comfort I love Vans for with the quirky style that usually catches my eye. The print looks like a carpet bag– a print that is very much in this season and has a vintage feel. The print is bold and that can be intimadating, but paired with more neutral tones they would be a nice pop to an outfit.
