Review- La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo

The video above is for a review of Effaclar Duo by La Roche-Posay. I wish I had found this product year ago because it has done wonders for my skin. If you are struggling with acne I encourage you to watch it or continue reading below.

What is Effaclar Duo?

It is an acne treatment and hydrating lotion that helps treat acne prone skin and control oily skin. It’s made in France and I had to go all the way there to get it. But it was worth it. It contains micronized benzoyl peroxide (5.5%) which targets acne deep in the skin. It also has micro-exfoliating LHA to provide exfoliation to clear away dulling cellular debris and oil. It is non-drying and oil free.

What I like about it

I love this product for 3 major reasons

1. It is very easy to use. Unlike other skin care treatments where you have to use a whole line of products and stick to a rigid skin care regime, effaclar-duo is simple. I cleanse my face with any cleanser of my choice and then apply the lotion. No fuss no hassle! The directions explain to use 3 times a day but  when I started using it I only used it once a day and still saw a big improvement in my skin.

2. You’re not obligated to use the product for life. Some acne treatments work wonders …until you stop using the product. I dislike those types of treatments. Effaclar duo heals your skin and lets you use other products without risking a return to your acne prone skin.

3. It targets under the skin pimples. Before effaclar-duo I was struggling with pimples under the skin, so while my skin looked ok from a distance it didn’t feel smooth and I was constantly getting breakouts. Nothing I used seemed to control these “under the skin” breakouts. Once the pimples came to surface they’d be hideous whiteheaded menaces that made my skin unattractive. Effaclar duo changed all that.

What I don’t like about it

The biggest con is its price. It’s nearly $4o for the tube. Now while I don’t mind that kind of investment on my skin and having clear skin to me is worth it. It’s not exactly a budget friendly option for taming your acne.

The price alone is not enough to turn me away and many people, like myself, have given this product a 5/5. If you are looking for something that will aid you in your battle against acne then I highly recommend checking out Effaclar Duo by La Roche-Posay

Arbonne gets an A +

DSC_0563 (2)

Arbonne is a beauty and wellness company that I was recently introduced to by my friend, and beauty consultant, Colleen Smith. I’m someone who loves to try health and beauty products in order to find the right products to improve my skin and overall well being. However, I was a little skeptical when I first went to Colleen for a facial because I have tried countless products that simply didn’t work.

What put me at ease however were two things

ColleenSmith_BC_Email-01

1. My beauty consultant Colleen Smith is basically a beauty guru. Not only is she a talented makeup artist but she is also very knowledgeable about the skincare industry. Thus, when she started telling me facts about Arbonne I became more excited about the products.

For example, Arbonne has an international rating of 4/5. People all over the world use and love this company’s products. Arbonne has trained consultants like Colleen who do hostings or beauty consultations to help you get familiar with the products but also suggest the right products for you and your needs.

Having a knowledgeable beauty consultant like Colleen can be the difference between improving your skin or making it worse.

During the facial, Colleen gave me ample information about the company itself and each of the products she was using on me. Ingredients list, when to use certain products, how to use them correctly, how to get the most out of your products—all of this is very important information that you can receive when you host a party with Colleen. As I got educated and pampered I started to feel less skeptical about Arbonne.

2. The second reason for giving this company such a high rating is that the products are actually amazing! I bought several items after my facial, and will post separate reviews on all of them; but as a whole, the products did not disappoint.

Colleen did the nightly facial for me. As someone who sometimes neglects to treat my skin well at night, I realized just important it is to have nightly regime if you want great looking skin. She used the following

Smoothing facial cleanser: which was easy to use, didn’t have an unpleasant smell, cleaned my face well and left it feeling smooth.

The nightly resurfacing pads left me amazed. Where has this product been all my life! I’ll go into more detail about it later but if you suffer from blemishes and acne you should definitely check it out. It’s one of their number one selling products.

The exfoliating new cell scrub was gentle and left my skin smoother, but this product as well as the toner were the only two that didn’t necessarily wow me. They were good but I prefer the ones I already use.

Then we used the intensive renewal serum. This is a wonderful product. It’s not heavy or greasy and made my skin feel like silk.

I never use eye creams but I would invest in the Corrective Eye Cream by Arbonne

The night repair cream made my skin feel soft and silky. It looked more youthful and glowing.

I couldn’t stop looking at my skin after the facial. I just looked more rejuvenated. I had become an Arbonne believer. The change in my skin was immediate and none of their products made me breakout or cause irritation.

I’m going to do a more in depth review of all the products I purchased so stay tuned for those posts but take the time to check out Colleen and Arbonne. Keep in mind that Arbonne is not just about beauty; they have tons of products for fitness and nutrition as well as products for men and women.

Why TheCosmetist.com is not your average beauty website

thecosmetistbanner

The internet is strewn with beauty blogs and cosmetic websites but most of them are not owned and operated by real pharmacists or cosmeticians. The Cosmetist.com however is one blog where you can get beauty advice from a doctor of pharmacy. I learned about this website not long ago, but I’m already a fan of it for a several reasons.

1. Written by a real cosmetician. The fact that this blog is kept by a doctor makes it stand apart from a majority of the beauty blogs out there. To use myself as example, I love beauty products but I’m not a pharmacist. There’s information that I can’t share with my readers because I’m not privy to it. The Cosmetist on the other hand  offers great advice that only someone who has worked in the industry would know, making it a trusted source for cosmetic and skin care information.

2. Highly Informative. The blog is dedicated to bringing you information about beauty and skin care, and it’s one of the most informative blogs I’ve come across for this industry.  The Cosmetist hails from France, and if there’s one thing most of us can agree on it’s that French beauty care is renowned. French pharmacists know their stuff and can ensure you make the right decisions for your beauty regime. If you can’t go to a French pharmacy, then head over to the website to get some of the best information about cosmetics and anti-aging.

3. Wonderfully written. You may be thinking that a website written by a doctor will be an overly complicated bore to read, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. The Cosmetist brings you information and awareness in an amusing, lighthearted, easy to understand style of writing. Even if you aren’t a die hard makeup fan you can enjoy this website simply for the posts. Each article is humorous, inspiring as well as informative.

4. Answers your questions. One of the favorite aspects of this website is that you can send in your own beauty and cosmetic related questions to be answered. Not many beauty bloggers do this. Most beauty bloggers simply write about their hauls and give product reviews, but don’t go out of their way to solve the beauty related issues of their readers. This is how I feel a real beauty website should be. It should connect with its readers and be willing to answer their questions the way The Cosmetist does.

If you want sound beauty advice, from a real doctor then you need to visit The Cosmetist and sign up for it’s newsletter. You’ll get great advice and inspiration to keep you looking and feeling beautiful.

Why everyone is talking about Punch Skin care

punchmoisturizer

I must be living under a rock, because this amazing skin care product, Punch Skin care, almost slipped under my radar. I noticed it on Amazon and one of the first things that stood out were its rave review. Everyone seems to love this product! With my curiosity peaked, I had to find out what made Punch so special.

Now, Punch Skin care has a line of different products, but I’m focussing on the moisturizer.

Looking at the ingredients, I could tell this was a premium product. To list just a few of the good for your products found in this moisturizer: organic witch hazel, organic grape seed extract, organic sesame seed extract, Vitamin A, and dandelion leaf extract. No wonder people were seeing amazing skin transforming results. These ingredients on their own can do wonders for the skin. But combined they greatly improve the look and feel of your skin.

How can Punch Moisturiser help your skin?

1. Cell Renewal: This moisturizer contains small protein peptides that stimulate cell renewal and strengthen collagen fibres. This is important in fighting the ageing process. As we get older, our skin loses it’s elasticity but with the help of these protein peptides you can give your skin a more toned appearance, which makes it look fuller, firmer, and younger.

2. Antioxidants: Young or old, female or male,  everyone needs to be concerned with stimulating antioxidant production in your skin. It is not only important for keeping your skin looking healthy, but it’s essential for protecting you against sun damage. Punch Skin care kept this in mind and thus their moisturizer helps to increase natural antioxidant production.

Bonuses

This product is oil free. This is important to me because, as someone whose skin is oily and breaks out easily, I can use this worry free knowing that I’m not adding to an existing skin problem.

A little goes a long way. On amazon this product is 27.55 but don’t let that turn you off. A little goes a long way! You only need a small thumb size amount to get the effects of this moisturiser.

I’m glad I joined the band wagon on this one, and can see why so many women and men are giving it a five star rating. It’s hard to find any fault with this product or company. Give Punch a try if you are looking for a high quality moisturizer that will make your skin beautiful.

Visit their website to learn more about their other products

Where to get Phytoceramides in Canada

phytoceramidesA male model wisely advised me to take care of my skin in my twenties because it will be be my skin in my forties. I think there’s a misconception among young people that they don’t need to worry about their skin or concern themselves with things like anti-ageing or keeping their skin looking young. But the fact is, nobody’s skin stays “young” forever. When you’re twenty you may not consider what products you can invest in to help you maintain your youth or slow down your skin’s ageing process but nearly every woman I’ve met over 35 begins to look for ways to get back their skin’s youth and these days men are also joining in as they try to avoid the appearance of growing older. Now, I’m not saying there is anything wrong with ageing and no your skin does not have to look “forever 21” but healthy looking skin boosts your confidence. Also, taking care of your skin is a healthy habit to get into.

There are a lot of products on the market, but one of the most talked about and effective is phytoceramide. What is phytoceramide? Ceramides are things we naturally have in our skin, but lose as we age. The loss of ceramides causes you to lose that plumpness and youthfulness that you have in your skin when you’re younger. The idea of ceramide supplements is not new. They have been in topical solutions and have been used in parts of Asia for years. Now however, the FDA has approved phytoceramides in Canada. Phyto means it’s a plant derivitive. It’s made into a supplement that puts it back into your skin and helps to hydrate the skin from the inside out. Many Doctors, even Doctor Oz, highly recommend taking phytocermaides for your skin’s health.

You may be thinking, great where can I get?! Because those were my thoughts when I learned about the benefits of this little supplement. Phytoceramidescanada.ca/ not only carries the supplement they have created a better formula that helps your skin from both the inside and outside. They offer a Revitol Phytoceramides that is now toted as the best anti-aging cream. Revitol contains key ingredients that include Matrixyl and Hyaluronic acid, together they work at penetrating deep into the skin to make it firm it and give it a youthful glow. The phytoceramides and revitol duo that can be found at phytocermacidescanada.ca give you a facelift without the pain or cost of seeing a plastic surgeon. The website offers a 90 day money back guarantee and the product has rave review from customers.

The product offers dramatic results on deep wrinkles, so if you have been battling with wrinkle creams, or know someone that has this will finally resolve the problem. You can visit the website today to get more information and ask for a trial.

Adama Minerals ClayMask Purify Deep Pore Cleanser

A few months ago, I began searching desperately for some skin care products that could treat my clogged pores and help with my acne prone skin. I looked on iherb.com and found Adama Minerals ClayMask Purify Deep Pore Cleanser with great review and decided to take a gamble on it. I’ve been using it for a few months. Usually when I do my review I list some pros and cons I found with the item; however, I actually have only one con with this product so I figured I’d get it out of the way now: it’s not available in my local drug store, health store, or beauty store. When I repurchase this, I’ll have to do so online. This can be a bit of a pain since that means dealing with shipping costs and wait time. But besides that…I love this claymask deep pore cleaner!

For starters, this deep pore cleanser, is 100% vegan, parben free, gluten-free, and contains no sulphates. I’m all for products that can be as harmless for my skin as possible and this contains a list of natural ingredients. There’s also no funny smell to deal with either. Does it work though?

IT DID FOR ME

Before I used it, my face was an absolute mess. Grotesque pimples and blemishes had taken over my skin. After the first time I used this deep pore cleaner, I noticed a slight difference in the size of my zits. After continuous use, I noticed I wasn’t getting the giant zits I was before and it’s a great spot treatment when I do get hormonal pimples. My skin is so much more improved—smooth, less blemishes, fewer breakouts, and it controlled my oily skin problem.

It’s very easy to use, and a little goes a long away. I’ve used a lot of clay masks, some more expensive than this but this one is my favorite. It doesn’t irritate sensitive skin and does what it claims to do. My pores feel less clogged and I have noticed the minerals that are meant to firm the skin has also helped me look younger.

The price varies depending on where you purchase it, thought it usually runs between 12-16 dollars. To me, it’s worth it and cheaper than some of the other products out there that claim to do the same thing.

I use it about 2 or 3 times a week and I always notice an improvement after each use. All those months of hunting for a great mask was worth it. I give it a 4.5/5.

Summer Faves

I know summer isn’t over yet, but I thought it’d be a better idea to do this post now before the chill of autumn caused me to completely forget to write it. Summer this year was a feast. I overate, overspent, and overshopped on multiple occasions. But with all my purchases came some distinct favorites that I wanted to share.

paulachoice1. Paula’s Choice Skin Recovery Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum: I don’t think I can live without product! To say it works well is an understatement. The product claims to fight multiple signs of aging. I’m in my twenties so to be honest, aging signs are not on my check list, but I do want my skin to stay young and fresh and this produt is exactly what my skin asked for. It shrinks my pores, giving me a very smooth and texture. It helped reduce my breakouts and gave my skin a beautiful healthy glow. I love this serum! Regardless of its hefty price, I will continue to buy it.

2. Lush Vanilla De-Lite: vanilladeeliteThis body lotion was a sweet smelling treat for summer. Much like one would expect, it smells like vanilla, but it isn’t an overly sweet cupcake type of vanilla scent; there’s a freshness to it which may be contributed to by the kiwi and coconut water that are used to make the body lotion. I wouldn’t use the this in winter, for I don’t find it to be the most moisturizing lotion, but in summer it’s perfect.

bastarsmoky3. BA Star smoky eye palatte: I reviewed this eye shadow palette here, so I won’t go into too much detail, but it was a summer hit. It’s easy to get a great smoky eye with this palette and the highly pigmented colors stay on for several hours, which is great during the summer when all you want to do is have fun and not worry if your look is still flawless.

lancombhypnose4. Lancomb Hypnose mascara: This has become my favorite mascara. I bought it via the recomendation of the sales girl and I’m glad she suggested it. It  makes my lashes look beautiful! The brush of the hypnose mascara allows you to get long dark lashes that mimic false eye lashes–but without looking fake. It doesn’t irrate my eyes and I don’t have to put on several coats to get the effect I’m going for. It also lasts all day, doesn’t clump, and gives great definition. I can’t say enough about it. It’s just an amazing product.

5. Micha Boots from Alloy.com:michaboot I bought the Micha boot on a whim, thinking they would be a cute item to wear to a summer festival…but…I’VE BEEN LIVING IN THEM! You can read my full review of them here, but I simply love these boots. They do have some flaws, which you can read about in my review but all in all they were a summer hit. They go with almost any summer outfit and I recieved a ton of compliments on them.

6. Mori girl style: Mori means forest in Japanese; mori girl style is a style that is inspired by a girl who lives in the forest or a small cottage in the country side. It’s a style that I’ve become obsessed with! I actually have been dressing mori girl for years without knowing that what the style was called or that it had it’s own subculture (thanks Japan for giving every style a subculture or every subculture a style). Mori girls wear looser fitting clothes, earthy tones, and the clothing pieces often have embrodairy, lace, kitting, or patchwork detail. It is similar to boho, but mori girl has a more vintage look about it. Layering is also important in mori girl. It’s a style that can be hit or miss but it is also can look very prarie girl chic when done right.

Aubrey Blue Green Algae Soothing Mask Review

AUB-04805-7The Aubrey Blue Green Algae Soothing Mask is toted as being an organic facial mask that will sooth stressed skin while gently exfoliating. I’ve been using it for a little over a month and wanted to share a review highlighting some of the pros and cons of this facial product.

PROS:

No skin irriatation: Over the past couple years, my skin has become sensitive, breaking out over virtually every product. I’m happy to say however that Aubrey’s blue green algae soothing mask does not irritate my skin at all. Instead, it makes my skin feel soothed and suble.

Moisturising: This product contains grapeseed extract and that may count for the fact that this product is not drying on the skin. Unlike other facial masks that dry hard like clay, this one is very creamy and does not dry out. While on, my skin feels very moisturized and warm (the product feels like a warming mask).

Soothing: While I wouldn’t say this product is a miracle product that gets rid of acne or blemishes, it does not add to pre-existing ones. The mask opens up the pores and gets out impurites which helps to improve the look of the skin. I find the benefits are subtle. It’s the type of mask that you add to your ongoing skin care regime, but I wouldn’t use it alone to tame skin problems. It works well with other products and helps to change the texture of your skin in subtle ways so over time your skin looks and feels better. One thing I will say is it did greatly reduce the size of my pores!

CONS:

I didn’t have any real cons with this product, but if I had to choose I’d have to name price as a factor. It often sells for 10+ dollars and can really only be found online so you’d have to consider shipping costs. But you can find it on vitacost and get a couple dollars off. Those who are looking for a product that dramatically improves their skin may also be a little disappointed because this product, while helpful, does not immediately change your skin.

Overall: I love this product! Personally, I find it works great as part of my skin care regime. It’s easy to use. Contains no harmful products and I consider it much more cost friendly than other products that perform similarly and/or contain the same ingredients. I wish I could get it locally, but I am willing to dish out the shipping costs to have this product. I recommend it to anyone looking to add an organic mask to their facial care regime.
