OOTD: The Other Alice

Happy Halloween! For those wondering, this isn’t my halloween costume. I’d wear this on any old day. But it does look a bit costumey so I thought I’d post it as a Halloween post. A subscriber on my youtube channel asked me to do an outfit post featuring the petticoat skirt from American Apparel. It’s a reversible skirt and looks great on its own, or under a dress or another skirt to make it poofy. My tights, which I call my ragdoll tights, were found at a thrift store. They’re one of my favorite pairs of tights. I was so close to getting rid of the blouse but something told me not to. I’m glad I didn’t because I like the way it looks and feels. It was also found at a thrift store.
I’m not sure which style genre my look falls under. It’s not really lolita and it’s not quite goth, or even pastel goth. The look is actually inspired by two girl characters. One is my own. A girl named Alice May from a series of short stories that I write. The other is Tommy Heavenly6, who is a Japanese singer.
Tommy Heavenly6 dresses quite goth, though her look often has what people would classify as lolita goth elements. She’s my favorite Japanese singer who often has Halloween music on her albums. I may have to dedicate an entire post to her one of these days. For now, thanks for visiting and have a stylishly spooky day.

Disney Print Skirts

disneyskirt

I always liked disney as a kid, and even now that I’m older I still get a kick from seeing merchandise that either resembles what the disney girls wore or has the characters themselves on the garmets. Recently, I stumbled upon a shop, shopjeen.com, that makes apparel with tv show and movie characters. That’s where I found the three skirts featured in this post. The skrits sell for about $40 and there are varity of disney scenes to choose from.

Kawaii Beauty Collection

I’m a sucker for cute packaging! I just help it; when I see cute little faces on beauty items I melt and am compelled to bring those cutsey products home with me. Most of the time, I don’t even use them because I don’t want to disturb their cute. I know it’s very silly, but I can’t help it. Over the past little while, I’ve collected some kawaii items and thought it would be fun to share them via the video below. Some of the products are discontinued, but the ones that are available can be found at the links below.

Review: Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula with Vitamin E

There are a number of benefits to cocoa butter for the skin, but after seeing a video from miagirl on youtube discuss how she uses it for her hair I was curious as to whether or not it would help tame my mane. You can view my review of Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula in the video below.

Gothic Long Skirts

Gothic Long Skirts

Gothic skirt, 72 CAD / Lace hi lo skirt, 72 CAD / River Island skirt, 25 CAD / Yoga skirt, 93 CAD
Halloween puts goth style in the spotlight. Rich dark tones and luxe fabrics like velvet and silk are nothing out of the ordinary for the everyday goth; however, for many, this time of year is about the only time they will embrace the darker side of style.
Perhaps you want to be a chic vampire for Halloween or simply want to try a different sense of style; regardless, a long gothic skirt is a great addition to one’s dark wardrobe.
As someone who loves lace, I’m drawn to the black lace overlay skirts, but I’m craving a velvet skirt as well. There are so many ways you can dress and accessorize a velvet skirt.
Halloween is a great  time to take a look around for fabrics and fashions that you may otherwise ignore during the rest of the year.

Halloweenish Tops

Halloweenish Tops

I used the term Halloween in the title only because the holiday inspired this post. But in all honesty, I’d wear any of these tops all year round. The skeletal tank for instance can easily be worked to countless outfits, and is a staple for those who love to dress in a manner that takes elements from the eerie side of life. For my lovely appreciators of the dark, the next few coming posts are dedicated to you. If you’re too old to go trick or treating, why not treat yourself to a fun and spooky top to get into the Halloween spirit.

Review: Paula’s Choice Clear Normalizing Cleaner

paulachoicecleanser

Paula’s Choice is known to carry good quality products, so when my sister included me in a haul I jumped at the opportunity to try one of her cleaners: the Clear Pore Normalizing Cleaner. There is a 6oz bottle and a trial size which is 1oz. I went with the trial size on account of never having actually tried her products before. Below is a review of my experience with the item. I used for 2 months.

Pros:

Varying sizes. I like that Paula’s offers a less expensive smaller version to try. In fact, I wish more companies would do this. Even with the smaller size, I was still able to use it for quite some time. Not having to commit to a larger bottle also made me less wary of making the purchase.

Packaging. The bottle is easy to open, close, and control how much of the product you get.

Cons:

Gave me breakouts: This product did far more harm than good for my skin. Before using it, I had a few spots. During use, my skin was a disaster! I got huge unsightly breakouts. This puzzled me because it did feel like it was cleaning my skin so I wasn’t sure why my skin looked and felt so horrible if it was clean. The breakouts would only get worse with each use and I can’t logically explain why I continued to use it.

Pricy: If this product had worked, maybe I wouldn’t have complained about the price. But my damaged skin deserved a cheaper product if it was going to look that ghastly. The 6oz is 11.00. This is expensive to me for a product that doesn’t work to “normalize” the skin.

I would never purchase the product again. I wouldn’t even use it if I got for free. It doesn’t even deserve one star in my books. I’m simply thankful that it was only the smaller bottle that money was thrown on.

Aliexpress Tops

Aliexpress.com is a wholesale website that sells everything from bedding to hair extentions. In fact, a lot of online stores purchase their stock from aliexpress. I’ve been building a pretty expansive wardrobe collection thanks to that site, and among the items I’ve been collecting are tops. I sometimes go overboard, but at such great prices it’s hard not to.

I thought I’d share some of my collected tops with you via the video above. Unfortunately, I did this video a while ago and so some of the items are not available. However, I did try to get as many links as I could for you, just in case you were interested in any of the featured items.
